Our Team

Ruth, Owner.  After purchasing our own pool, my husband Len and I could not find a reliable company to assist us with its upkeep.  Len and I attended classes in the hopes of understanding our pool better and received our Certified Pool/Spa Operator (CPO) and Aquatic Facilities Operator (AFO) certifications.  We believed that our interest in the pool/spa industry might help others and, from that humble beginning, Monarch Pool Care was born.   Now in our fifth year of business, I continue to take multiple water chemistry, stain control, and troubleshooting classes to aid me in providing knowledgeable advice to our customers.  I have found the pool and spa industry to be my passion and I usually spend what free time I have reading industry articles, researching new chemical products and trying to find new and better ways to provide our customers with the best service possible.

Prior to owning Monarch Pool Care I worked for 20 years in legal administration, the last 12 of which as an office administrator for a mid-size law firm in Washington, D.C. (I much prefer the pool industry!)

Len, General Manager.  My beautiful bride, Ruth, and I founded Monarch Pool Care in the spring of 2006 and we opened our retail store in May, 2007.  While I am responsible for many aspects of running our store, I primarily focus on services of a technical nature.   My responsibilities range from above ground pool construction, vinyl liner replacement and safety cover installation to motor, heater, filter and spa repairs.  As a licensed contractor in the state of Virginia, I assemble and oversee contractors with specialty skills who perform plaster, tile and coping remodeling services for swimming pools and spas and who are licensed to install electrical and gas hook-ups for new heaters or other new water features.

Every year at Monarch Pool Care, we improve our abilities by attending continuing education classes.  I really look forward to and enjoy these opportunities.  I currently hold an Aquatic Facilities Operator  (AFO) Certification from the National Recreation and Park Association, Certified Pool Operators (CPO) Certification from the National Swimming Pool Foundation, and Tech I Certification from the Association of Pool and Spa Professionals.

With my parents, family and friends, my “previous work life” helped chisel me into the person I am today.  While working full-time for my mom and dad in their small grocery store in N.W. Indiana, I attended the local college extension.  And, in 1985, I graduated from Purdue University, with a Bachelor of Science Degree in electrical engineering technology.  From 1986 to 2006, I worked as a consulting engineer for law firms serving the wireless communications industry and most recently I was an Associate with Booz Allen Hamilton assigned to its wireless division supporting the Department of Homeland Security.  I am grateful for those experiences and for the people who guided and mentored me along the way.

Daniel, Service Manager.  My employment with Monarch Pool Care started 3 years ago on a warm December day.  Wearing a t-shirt, shorts and flip flops I answered the door and there was Len and Ruth dressed in layers coming to close my pool.  Since day one Len and Ruth have treated me and my family like their own and I am grateful for that.  Monarch Pool Care has given me the opportunity to further myself in the pool industry.  I am Aquatic Facilities Operator (AFO) certified, Certified Pool and Spa Operator (CPO) certified, and have over 35 hours of classroom and hands on training.

I am 30 years young.  I have been married to my wonderful wife Sarah for 4 years and we have a fantastic 2 year old son Ryan.  To complete our family we have our Rottweiler Scooby, Lilly our mutt, and Sophie our cat.  Born and raised in Southern California was awesome, living in Wyoming for 6 years was an experience, and in 2007 we decided to come out to the east coast.  Some of my interests would have to be volunteer firefighting for over 5 years, becoming an emergency medical technician for several years, hazmat training, being a first responder for the Department of Homeland Security, and a community emergency response team member and instructor.

Anthony
, Service Technician.   I've been a service technician with Monarch Pool Care for the last three years.  Recently, I traveled to the Northeast Spa and Pool Association’s annual conference where I received my Certified Pool and Spa Operator (CPO) certification.  I grew up all over Northern Virginia and graduated from Colonial Forge High School here in Stafford a few years back.  I've always enjoyed being outside and traveling, whether it's a cross country tour with my band or a relaxing day fishing on the James River. I’m fortunate enough to have a job where I am outside most of the time so pool service has become more fun than work!

“TJ”, Service Technician.  I have been with Monarch Pool Care for over a year.  During that time I have performed hands-on training to develop my technical skills in equipment and plumbing repair as well as routine pool and spa maintenance.  I recently received my Certified Pool and Spa Operator (CPO) certification while attending the Northeast Spa and Pool Association’s annual conference.   I have also attended Aquatic Facilities Operator (AFO) classes and hope to earn my certification in the near future.

I graduated from Liberty High School in 2009.  Prior to working for Monarch Pool Care I was employed by the Marine Corp. and have taken classes for machine repair, construction and welding.  I am an avid outdoorsman who enjoys hunting, fishing, and working on my truck.

Tyler, Service Technician.   I have been a part of the aquatics field for 30 years.  A majority of that time was spent managing aquatic facilities for Montgomery College in Maryland.  I have also worked in the Recreation Department for the County Government of Bradenton Florida as an Aquatic’s Program Director.  While working in Florida I extended my skills to provide services to homeowners and now continue that here in Virginia.  My strength is being able to work well with people.  I have been a USA swimming coach for 28 year and am still active in promoting competitive swimming.  My education includes an A.A. degree from Montgomery College.  My certifications include Lifeguarding, First Aid, CPR and AED.  I am also a certified USA Professional Swim Coach and a Certified Pool and Spa Operator (CPO).

Mary, Assistant Store Manager.  My name is Mary, but most people call me by my nickname, Niki.  I have been with Monarch Pool Care since it opened its retail store in 2007.  I do my best to listen and answer any questions that our customers might have regarding their pool and spa.  I’m the person you’ll find at the front counter to set up your service appointments, perform your water tests, and make your entire shopping experience a pleasant one.

I graduated from Colonial Forge High School in 2005.  I married my husband Eric in 2008 and we have a wonderful daughter, Kirsten.  I enjoy music, laughing, friends, and most of all spending time with my family.

Kirsten, Store Clerk - “in training”.   Hi, my name is Kirsten, but everyone calls me “K”.  You may have seen me at Monarch Pool Care with my Mommy.  I work very hard to greet our customers when they come to our store.  I blow kisses to you and say “hi” and “bye” at every visit and if I see things you might like (or I might like) – I will go out of my way to hand them to you.  I love “working” with my Mommy very much.  I am a “next generation” store manager in training and I hope to see you soon at Monarch Pool Care!
